Pitso points out what Kaizer Chiefs exactly need to return to the top

Pitso Mosimane has touched on Kaizer Chiefs’ struggles and the fact that the club needs to be competitive again.

The Soweto giants have now gone nine years without winning any silverware. Despite changing coaches every season, Amakhosi have gone backwards in every season and lost ground on rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. In recent weeks, Chiefs were linked to Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Pitso was a favourite for the Kaizer Chiefs job last month but the former Downs coach revealed the club never approached him. Speaking to Soccer Laduma, Mosimane said Amakhosi would need good players to compete.

Pitso says Kaizer Chiefs need top players

Mosimane’s name is no longer being mentioned as one of the favourites to land the Amakhosi job.

“We’re talking about Kaizer Chiefs, do you know the history of Kaizer Chiefs? They’ve always had the best players ever,” said Pitso as per Soccer Laduma.

“We’re not talking about a Maritzburg United to turn things around, we’re talking about Chiefs.

“The best players played for Chiefs, you can’t win games if you don’t have good players.

“How does Manchester City turn around things because Pep Guardiola is a magician? He’s got [Erling] Haaland and all these top players,” the ex-Al Ahly coach added.

Pitso believes Kaizer Chiefs need the best players to compete for titles. He also mentioned that during his Sundowns days, he had the best talent which helped him to win titles.

“Also, with me at Sundowns to turn it around we had [good] players and look what has happened. They kept buying good players hence Rulani [Mokwena] is on top of his game,” Mosimane said.

Jingles not taking over at Amakhosi

Last week Pitso revealed that Kaizer Chiefs had not contacted him for the job leaving Nabi as a top favourite. Mosimane recently returned to South Africa following a short stint in Saudi Arabia.
