UK weather: Met Office map shows low-pressure to bring unsettled conditions this week
The UK is set for a week of unpredictable weather
The UK is set for a week of unpredictable weather, with rain and thunder battering parts of the country once again this week, the Met Office has said.
The forecaster said in its latest update that while some Brits will be offered a temporary respite from a wet and gloomy weekend, other parts of the country remain wet and gloomy as low pressure dominates the new working week. It means several areas will experience unsettled weather, with the possibility of heavy rain and thunderstorms battering the southeast by Friday.
In a graphic posted to X, the Met Office broke down this weeks forecast, revealing both sunny spells and showers will be expected today. The forecaster wrote: "Low pressure is the dominating feature to start the new working week." Monday will bring "a day of sunny spells and showers. Some showers heavy and thundery in the northeast." It added conditions will be drier than the weekend overall, with some areas feeling warm and offering some sunshine.
Tuesday will be dry for most as high pressure builds on the Atlantic, but it will be showery in the north, possibly turning heavy and thundery. On Wednesday, high pressure will stretch across the UK and bring a largely fine and dry day. Meanwhile in Scotland, it will turn cloudier with strengthening winds.
Mixed conditions will hit the UK towards the end of the week, with Thursday being warm and dry for most, while Friday paints a very different picture. The Met Office revealed: "The week ends on an unsettled note with rain and stronger winds arriving from the west", with "a chance of heavy rain and thunderstorms in the southeast too."
It follows an already gloomy June forecast which saw some areas battered by huge rainstorms over the weekend, as experts warned that two bands of low pressure could see thousands of Brits battling thunderstorms throughout the month.
The Met Office's weather outlook for today reads: "A mixture of sunshine and showers, but most places staying largely dry compared to the weekend. Heaviest showers in the northeast with a low chance of rain approaching the southeast." Brits can expect fewer showers from Tuesday until Thursday, with sunny spells for most. The far north on the other hand will see cloudier weather at times, with patchy rain.
Next week, the Met Office predicts the UK will see "a gradual transition to more changeable conditions." It said: "Following a couple of days of largely fine and settled weather, a gradual transition to more changeable conditions from the Atlantic is likely to take place with periods of cloud, rain and stronger winds most often affecting the west and northwest.
