Supreme Court preserves access to abortion drug mifepristone
The Supreme Court has preserved access to the medication used in the most common form of abortion in the United States. The drug at issue, mifepristone, was used in nearly 2/3 of abortions in this country in 2023. The court ruled that the anti abortion doctors who challenged changes that the federal Food and Drug Administration made to the way mifepristone is prescribed and used. Had no legal right or standing to file their lawsuit in federal court. Among the changes that the FDA made in recent years was to eliminate the need for an in person visit and to allow the drugs to be sent by mail. The cases The Supreme Court's first abortion case since the justices overruled Roe V Wade two years ago. In that case, the court wiped away A50 year old ruling that had guaranteed a woman's right to an abortion in the United States.
