Committed to cracking down on terrorists through innovative means: Amit Shah tells J&K security high-level meeting

NEW DELHI: Home minister Amit Shah, chairing a high-level review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir security scenario on Sunday, said that the Centre is committed to cracking down on terrorists through innovative means.

Shah also directed agencies to replicate successes achieved in Kashmir through Area Domination Plan and Zero Terror Plan in Jammu division. Shah asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government is committed to set an example by cracking down on terrorists through innovative means. Shah directed all security agencies to work in a mission mode and ensure quick response in a coordinated manner.

The meeting was attended by national security advisor Ajit Doval, Lieutenant governor of J&K Manoj Sinha, chief of army staff General Manoj Pandey, Union home secretary, director, intelligence bureau and other senior army officers.

The home minister has directed all relevant agencies to adopt a mission-oriented approach to ensure a swift and coordinated response, adding the battle against terrorism in J&K is reaching a critical stage. He pointed out that recent events indicate a shift from highly coordinated terrorist activities to a mere proxy war. Shah reaffirmed the commitment to completely eradicate terrorism.

Earlier this week, terrorists attacked four locations in Reasi, Kathua, and Doda districts of J&K. These attacks resulted in the deaths of nine pilgrims and a CRPF jawan, while seven security personnel were injured. Additionally, two suspected Pakistani terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Kathua district. A large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from them.

Shah highlighted the importance of seamless coordination among security agencies. He emphasised the need to identify and address security concerns in vulnerable areas.

Shah said that the Indian govt's efforts have brought substantial positive changes in the Kashmir Valley. He mentioned a significant decrease in terror-related incidents and said that the improvement in law and order is evidenced by a record number of tourists visiting the Kashmir Valley.
