Trump rallies Republican support on Capitol Hill
Former President Donald Trump held a series of meetings with lawmakers in Washington, DC Thursday, and while some welcomed the visit enthusiastically, and this is a unified effort by the party, we're feeling good. I'm grateful to the president for answering questions from our colleagues today. A handful of lawmakers cited conflict, saying they would not be attending the meeting with Trump, including one of his most vocal critics. I leave out a flight at 2:00. I can't make it. Trump's visit marks his first face to face meeting with some key lawmakers. Including longtime Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell since the January 6/20/21 capital insurrection. McConnell, who is stepping down from his leadership position this fall, has had a tense relationship with Trump in recent years. I've said earlier this year I support him, he's been earned the nomination by the voters all across the country. And of course, I'll be at the meeting. The purpose of these meetings is to energize the party and sync up over the policies and proposals that generally Dr. an election year. But we have to get elected, We have to take this this beautiful place, and we have to make it really something very special again, right now, it's not special. GOP senators who were interested in standing at the podium with Trump were invited to do so. That exposure could be good for those seeking re-election in Trump states or those on the short list to be his running mate. Reporting at the White House, I'm Julia Benbrook.
