SINGAPORE – Four men, aged between 23 and 31, were charged on June 15 for their suspected involvement in a case of rioting at Raffles Link.
Muhammad Azroy Jasni, 27, Mohamad Azhar Mohamad Bahagia, 23, Muhammad Shafiq Rosli, 31, and Mohammad Suhaimi Sulaiman, 30, were charged for being part of an unlawful assembly that had a common object of hurting six unknown Malay males.
The men were charged under Section 147 of the Penal Code. If found guilty, they could each face up to seven years in jail and caning.
The police said earlier on June 15 that they were alerted to a fight along Raffles Link at 3.05am on June 14.
When officers arrived at the scene, two groups of people were seen shouting at each other, with at least five men purportedly engaged in physical altercation.
Despite several warnings by the officers, the groups remained rowdy and non-compliant.
The police said they utilised “use of force options”, which included police contact tactics and baton techniques, to de-escalate the situation and arrest the individuals.
The police are still searching for the remaining assailants.
