Strikes on Russia with German weapons will not lead to escalation - Scholz

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz says Ukraine's use of German weapons to strike Russian territory will not lead to escalation.

“As the President of the United States of America (Joe Biden, head of the White House - ed.) said, it is only about the possibility of protecting a large city, such as Kharkiv,” the chancellor says.

According to Scholz, the decision to lift restrictions on the use of German weapons was carefully considered in cooperation with Berlin's friends and allies. Moreover, the chancellor assured that he would never allow pressure to be put on him to make a wrong decision.

Lifting restrictions on Western weapons use

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Ukraine's allies have been actively helping Kyiv not only financially or humanitarian but also with military weapons. The latter was provided on the condition that the weapons would not be used to hit Russian targets on the territory of the terrorist country.

After Russia launched an offensive in early May in the Kharkiv region and intensified massive strikes on the territory of the country, most partners began to reconsider their position.
