Tom Hardy shows how perfect he is for James Bond in new film

Tom Hardy has burst back onto screens in the trailer for his latest big movie, but all fans seemed to have James Bond on the brain as they reacted to it.
Long seen as a favourite to inherit the role of 007 from Daniel Craig, people were enjoying seeing the 46-year-old show that he definitely has the chops for it, even if it may never come to pass.
British actor Hardy, 46, who will next be seen in The Bikeriders, looked suave in black tie in the first look at the upcoming movie, which is set for release this autumn.
The Oscar nominee was shown in character walking into a fancy event while he adjusted his cuff – a very Craig-era Bond thing to do.
However, fans didn’t even need that subtle nod to enthuse over the star’s suitability to play 007.
‘Tom Hardy in a tux is just teasing us for his supposed James Bond gig… man what an actor,’ tweeted fan Sandra on X, while Ally Keyoni was more insistent in her choice, writing: ‘CAST TOM HARDY AS JAMES BOND RN.’

‘Tom Hardy should be the next James Bond. If you think otherwise you are deluded and wrong,’ @glennwrites1 stated on the social platform, chiming in with their strong opinion.
‘Watching the new #Venom #TheLastDance trailer. Is this Tom Hardy’s James Bond audition …?’ wondered Gary, as @waythisis shared a screenshot of Hardy’s strut in his tuxedo, quipping: ‘“Tom Hardy should be James Bond” nation was happy after this shot.’

‘I think we need to put Tom Hardy in the James Bond conversation real quick!!!’ posted @calamadzI, as they shared grabs from the trailer by another fan, which had been dubbed ‘MY Bond’.
Of course, Jiu-Jitsu enthusiast Hardy has actually been a mainstay in the James Bond casting discussion among fans and betting agencies for years – although it seems he’s a slightly less sure candidate in 2024.

Leading up to Craig handing in his licence to kill after No Time to Die in 2021, his fifth outing as the British spy, actors including Idris Elba (who has since ruled himself out), Henry Cavill, Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy, Poldark’s Aidan Turner and Bridgerton actor Regé-Jean Page were all considered strong contenders to replace him.
However, in recent months Aaron Taylor-Johnson has sent the rumour mill into overdrive about his possible involvement with the franchise, ever since it was reported in December 2022 that he had apparently shot the classic 007 gun barrel sequence that appears in the official opening for every Bond movie.

With fans and journalists alike keen to get the scoop on who the next Bond could be, Johnson indicated he has probably had enough of the intense speculation in April, when he was asked directly about it at the premiere of his new film The Fall Guy, with Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt.
When asked if he gets ‘sick of being asked about Bond’, the star paused, sighed and chuckled before bluntly replying, ‘Are you sick of asking the question?’.
‘I want to know, so no,’ the reporter responded, which led to the actor telling her to ‘have a good one’, as he shut down any further conversation and moved along the press line.
Who could be the next James Bond? Latest odds
With Daniel Craig's tenure as Ian Fleming's James Bond 007 ending back in 2021 with No Time To Die, speculation has been swirling ever since over who will be the next actor to step into the tuxedo.

He’s got a lot of solid support if he does end up taking on the role though, from his Back to Black filmmaker wife Sam Taylor-Johnson to ex-Bond Pierce Brosnan also having given their seal of approval to the potential casting.
His director on The Fall Guy, David Leitch, who previously worked with the 33-year-old on action thriller Bullet Train, also gushed over Taylor-Johnson having the potential to be ‘an amazing Bond’.
Hardy’s upcoming movie is Venom: The Last Dance, the third and final film in the Spider-Man spin-off series from Sony, which sees his dual characters of Eddie Brock and symbiote Venom on the run in Mexico, being hunted by both of their worlds.

Alongside clamour for Hardy’s appearance in a tuxedo, comic book and film fans also enjoyed seeing the usual tiffs between Eddie and Venom and the return of Mrs Chen in the trailer, as well as the spectacle of a symbiotic Venom horse.
The Inception and Mad Max: Fury Road actor has a story credit on the sequel, which also stars Rhys Ifans, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Stephen Graham and Juno Temple, as he did on the 2021 follow-up Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
He made his debut in the role in 2018’s Venom.
Venom: The Last Dance is set to release in UK cinemas on October 25.
