Zelenskyy invites Orban to Peace Summit: 'Hungary's position is important'

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone conversation with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and invited him to the Global Peace Summit, scheduled for June 15-16 in Switzerland, according to the head of state's Twitter (X) account

"I had a lengthy and focused call with Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, and invited him to the Peace Summit. Hungary’s position is important to us in terms of bringing peace closer and our shared regional security," wrote Zelenskyy.

The President emphasized Ukraine's interest in good neighborly relations with Hungary, as well as in developing cooperation in trade, energy, and logistics.

"We coordinated next steps to resolve the full range of bilateral issues in a mutually beneficial manner. We also discussed Ukraine’s EU integration. I am confident that Ukraine's swift accession to the EU will benefit both of our states," added the head of state.

Global Peace Summit

The Global Peace Summit will take place on June 15-16 in Switzerland. During the session, the Ukrainian peace formula for a fair conclusion to the war with Russia, proposed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy back in 2022, will be discussed.

Representatives from over a hundred countries worldwide have been invited to the summit, but Russia has not been invited. However, the aggressor country will be able to participate in subsequent sessions.

In particular, leaders from Germany, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, Spain, France, and Slovakia have already confirmed their participation in the summit.

Hungary's position on the war in Ukraine

It's worth noting that the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, has openly held an anti-Ukrainian position. He frequently makes statements to discredit Ukraine.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Hungary has not provided military assistance to Ukraine and has also blocked European Union sanctions against Russia. Additionally, Budapest continues to trade with Russia, and Hungarian government representatives visit Moscow.

Furthermore, Hungary regularly creates obstacles for Ukraine's path to the EU and NATO, and has hindered the allocation of 50 billion euros for our country.
