Gilgo Beach cops remove long rope and paint chips from serial killer suspect Rex Heuermann's house as mystery search continues

Rex Heuermann's Long Island home was subjected to another search Thursday  He has been charged with four murders linked to the Gilgo Beach serial killer Cops seized several items while the suspected killer's family were out of town

Police removed a long rope and paint chips from the porch of suspected Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann’s Massapequa Park home.

Crews wearing gloves and face masks were seen standing on folding chairs collecting paint chips from underneath the porch rafters on Thursday afternoon - on day four of the search that started on Monday when officials raided Heuermann’s home for a second time.

Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney arrived at the home Thursday afternoon around 3.40pm. He went inside the property, and approximately 20 minutes later emerged and left. He did not speak to any news crews standing nearby.

It remains unclear if today marks the last day of the search. Last summer, Tierney appeared at Heuermann’s home when the initial search was done at the home that lasted 12-days.

The NYS Police Command Center vehicle left the block mid-day, and a truck loaded with evidence pulled away from the driveway and off Heuermann’s block a few hours later.

The Suffolk County Police Department and NYS Troopers have been present since a new search warrant was executed on Monday. It is not clear what prompted the search, and what they were looking for.

Heumann’s 27-year-old daughter Victoria Heuermann was reported to be the only person home when officers knocked on the home, and she was instructed to leave the premises.

Robert Macedonio, Asa Ellerup's attorney, added that Victoria was 'cooperative.'

Her mother, Asa Ellerup, the estranged wife of Heuermann, and her son Christopher Sheridan, 34, were reported to have been away in South Carolina before the search was executed.

Since Monday teams of investigators have been removing bags, boxes, furniture and household items from the home. The medical examiner was on site earlier in the week.

Thursday's search, the fourth this week, came amid a second effort from Long Island investigators to scour Heuermann's home for potential evidence.

The initial search lasted 12-days last July, following the architect's dramatic arrest on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue where he worked.

In that search last year, investigators seized a huge cache of weapons from the home, including at least four long-barreled firearms.

Several more blue plastic boxes with weapons in them were also seen being hauled from the property, as it was revealed that he had permits for a staggering 92 firearms.

Investigators were reportedly scouring the home at the time for potential 'trophies' from the victims Heuermann is accused of murdering, however it is unclear if any were found.

The crimes Heuermann has been charged with relate to the decade-long search for the infamous Gilgo Beach serial killer, with a total of 11 bodies - seven of which he has not been charges with - found on Gilgo Beach between 2010 and 2011.

Meanwhile, neighbors from the middle class community where Heuermann lived for all of his life in Massapequa Park, close to where the victim's remains were found, have described him as a menacing figure whose home was avoided by children at Halloween.

'We would cross the street. He was somebody you don't want to approach,' neighbor Nicholas Ferchaw, 24, told the New York Times after his arrest.

It was also revealed after his arrest that Heuermann was once kicked out of a Whole Foods for stealing oranges and owed thousands in back taxes.

The newly recently video showing the arrest of Heuermann sees him walking through a busy street at dusk during rush hour with a bag slung over his back. He appears unaware that he's being pursued by police officers.

Eventually, a group of suit-wearing officers stop and surround Heuermann. The arrest occurred around 8:30pm. A little over 12 hours later, he was arraigned on three first-degree murder charges in a Long Island courtroom.

A long-time colleague of Heuermann told the Times that he spoke to the suspect on Thursday evening, noting that he was cracking jokes. 'That must have been right before he left the office and they arrested him,' Steve Kramberg told the Times.

The suspect's neighbors were long wary of the mysterious architect. One, Mike Schmidt, said he would often shares beers with another neighbor and point at Heuermann's home and remark: 'He probably has bodies in there,' according to the Times.
