HOUSTON — With temperatures and heat indexes rising, the National Weather Service put most of the Houston area under a Heat Advisory through 8 p.m. Wednesday.

In response, the City of Houston made dozens of cooling centers available to residents seeking relief from extreme heat.

The Heat Advisory includes Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Walker, San Jacinto, Polk, Washington, Grimes, Liberty, Colorado, Austin, Waller and Wharton counties.

Heat indexes will be near or greater than 108 on Wednesday, according to the NWS.

What you need to do: drink plenty of fluid, stay indoors with air conditioning if you can and stay out of the sun. Also, make sure to check on those who may be susceptible to heat illnesses.
