'This Is Bengal's Democracy': BJP Candidate Hiran Chatterji As Police Raid PA's Residence At 3 AM
Just three days before the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha Elections, police raided the residence of the secretary of actor-turned-politician Hironmoy Chattopadhyaya a.k.a Hiran Chatterji, who is Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate from the Ghatal Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal.
The police reached his PA—Tamanghno Dey's premises at around 2:30 AM. But, his mother, did not open the door as she was alone at home at the time. She further stated that her son's only mistake is that he stays with BJP leader Hiran. The police left around 6:30 AM.
The police of Ghatal police station along with Kharagpur local police station police were a part of the search team.
Hiran Chatterji Files FIR Against TMC's Dev Over 'Slanderous' Remarks
Earlier this month, Chatterji stated that he had filed an FIR against his opponent and sitting Trinamool Congress MP Deepak Adhikari alias Dev, another popular actor in Bengal, for his "slanderous" comment targeting him.
Chatterji stated that he will also register a complaint with the Election Commission of India against Dev regarding his comments.
Dev had alleged that BJP, in its desperation to win from Ghatal, were orchestrating a conspiracy to implicate the opposition's candidate in a murder case.
"A BJP worker might get killed in Keshpur in the next 10-12 days and the BJP candidate might try to implicate me in a false case," Dev stated, while alleging BJP and Chatterji of hatching a murder conspiracy against him.
Following Dev's remarks, Chatterji, who is BJP MLA from Kharagpur (Sadar), stated that he has already registered an FIR against the Trinamool candidate at a local police station.
"I am telling the BJP workers in Keshpur that no one will dare to touch any of them. How can someone accuse a candidate and his party of planning a murder? If anyone plans a murder, will he create propaganda around it in advance," news agency IANS quoted Chatterjee as saying.
