Germany raises almost 1 billion euros for Ukraine's air defense - Baerbock

Germany has raised nearly 1 billion euros for additional support of Ukraine's air defense, according to German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.

"Ukraine urgently needs to bolster its air defense to protect itself from the barrage of Russian missiles and drones. That’s why, together with Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, I launched a global initiative to enhance air defense," she said.

The Minister added that Germany plans to push for greater support of Ukrainian air defense.

"We have already raised nearly a billion euros for additional support of Ukrainian air defense forces and are making every effort to achieve even more. We have turned over every stone multiple times and even committed to delivering an additional Patriot unit," she said.

Baerbock added that Europe must unite its efforts to ensure Ukraine's survival.

"So that Ukrainians can continue to live independently in the future. And to ensure that Putin's troops do not end up on our own borders soon," she said.

Air defense for Ukraine

In April 2024, Germany proposed a new initiative aimed at expanding support for Ukraine with air defense systems. Belgium, as part of this initiative, allocated 200 million euros to strengthen Ukraine's air defense.

Canada also provided Ukraine with military aid worth over 55 million dollars to bolster its air defense.

The combined efforts of these countries will help Ukraine to counter Russian air attacks more effectively.
