Russian troops launch nearly 30 drones at Ukraine last night: Ukraine's air defense in action

The Russian invaders used 29 kamikaze drones launched from three directions to launch an air attack on Ukraine on the night of May 21. Almost all Russian attack drones were destroyed by Ukrainian air defense, according to the Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk.

"On the night of May 21, 2024, Russia attacked with 29 Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs from three directions: Prymorsko-Akhtarsk, Kursk - Russia, Cape Chauda - Crimea," he says.

Repulsing Russian attack

According to the Ukrainian Air Force commander, combat operations to repel the night air attack were conducted in 7 regions, with the following units involved:

・mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces,

・anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force and the Army,

・fighter aircraft,

・electronic warfare units.

"As a result of anti-aircraft combat, 28 Shaheds were shot down in Odesa, Mykolaiv, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Kherson and Kirovohrad regions," informs Oleshchuk.

Russian air attack on night of May 21

Last night, the Russian invaders once again launched Shahed drones on the territory of Ukraine. An air alert was declared in many regions.

Around two in the morning, it became known about explosions in Kharkiv, where the Russian occupiers launched Shaheds, and about fires as a result of the Russian shelling. In addition, an explosion was heard in Odesa, a city that had also been attacked by drones.

Later, the mayor's office and the military administration said that four people were injured in Kharkiv and have already received medical care. It was reported that one of the city's favorite vacation spots was hit.

At about seven in the morning, the Russian occupiers launched a missile attack on Kharkiv - an explosion was heard in the city. The Russian shelling wounded a civilian. Russia struck the transport infrastructure. Later, the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration showed photos of the consequences of Russia's attack on Kharkiv.
