Ukrainian military conduct assaults and sweep area in Kharkiv region

The Russian army in the Kharkiv direction made two attempts in a day to break through the defenses of Ukrainian defenders. Meanwhile, in certain areas of the region, Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers are conducting assault operations to improve their tactical positions, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Frontline situation and Russian shelling

In the nightly report from the military command, it is noted that there were 101 clashes on the front line during the day.

"The enemy delivered 15 missile strikes, 70 airstrikes, and 452 attacks with kamikaze drones, conducted 2843 shelling of our positions," the General Staff reported.

Situation in the Kharkiv direction

It is noted that in the Kharkiv direction, there were two attempts by the enemy to break through the defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the directions of Hlyboke-Lyptsi and Buhruvatka-Starytsia.

"The situation is under control of the Defense Forces. Our defenders in certain areas are conducting assault operations to improve their tactical position, as well as carrying out reconnaissance measures," the report said.

The General Staff also added that in the area of the city of Vovchansk, Ukrainian units are strengthening their defense in order to improve their tactical position.

Attacks by the Russian army in other directions

In the Kupiansk direction, there were 6 clashes. Ukrainian forces successfully repelled 3 enemy attacks. Three clashes are ongoing in the areas of Kyslivka-Ivanivka and Krokhmalne-Berestove. The situation is under the control of Ukrainian defenders.

In the Siversk direction, the Russian army made 5 attempts to break through the Ukrainian defense, concentrating their efforts in the Rozdolivka area. The situation is under control.

In the Kramatorsk direction, the number of clashes has increased to 15. Defense forces held their positions. The situation is tense but under control.

In the Pokrovsk direction, the number of clashes remains unchanged. Since the beginning of the current day, the enemy has attacked defense positions 25 times. Fighting also continues in the areas of Novooleksandrivka, Sokil, and Nevelske. The Russian army is continuing their attempts to advance towards Novooleksandrivka.

In the Kurakhiv direction, the enemy tried 16 times to break through the Ukrainian defense. Fighting continues in the areas of Paraskoviivka and Vodiane. The situation is under control.

In the Vremivka direction, the enemy made 3 attempts to improve their tactical position. Ukrainian forces repelled 2 attempts by the enemy to advance towards Staromaiorske. Another battle is ongoing in the area of Rozdilne.

In the Prydniprovsk direction, the Russian army continues its attempts to displace the defense forces from the bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro River.

"Our forces repelled 13 enemy attacks in the area of the settlement of Krynky. No loss of positions was allowed during the fighting," the General Staff reported.

In the Lyman, Toretsk, Huliaipole, and Orikhiv directions, the Russian army did not conduct offensive or assault actions today.

"The defense forces are provided with appropriate forces and means, reinforced with reserves to seize the initiative on the battlefield," the nightly report said.

Data on Russian losses in the Kharkiv direction

Earlier, the General Staff reported on the strengthening of defense by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the border areas of the Kharkiv region, as well as the reconnaissance efforts by the defenders.

According to the military command in the evening report of May 17, since the beginning of the day, the enemy's losses in this direction amount to - 133 enemy servicemen killed and wounded, 36 units of weapons and military equipment. Additionally, 8 enemy bunkers were destroyed.
