Notre Dame Linebacker Teddy Rezac Ready To "Win The Whole Thing"

Since Marcus Freeman came to Notre Dame, the prototype of the linebacker position has dramatically changed. A push for longer and more athletic second level defenders became the focus, which we saw continue during the 2024 recruiting class. That is why the Irish staff valued Omaha (Neb.) Westside defender Teddy Rezac, a high school safety that is set to transition to a full time rover on the college level.
Since committing last May, Rezac had been a player who had gone mostly under the radar for Notre Dame fans. The 6-4, 195-pound defender is set to finally enroll in a few weeks, and officially start the next chapter of his football journey. The last few months have been dedicated for Rezac to prepare and become the best version of himself.
"I feel like my preparation has been great,” Rezac told Irish Breakdown. "I’ve been working hard in the weight room, and on the field as well. I think I’ll be in good shape when I step on campus June 9th.”
How quickly Rezac makes the weight room gains will determine when he starts to assert himself on the field. Could he crack the rotation at some point in 2024? Can he immediately help on special teams? All those questions are on the table.
No matter what his role, Rezac is ready to play it.
"My goals are really just to help the team in any way possible,” he explained. "I want to get on special teams and see the field that way. Just learning the defense as best as possible is huge for me as well.”
Move-in day on June 9th, and it's a day the Nebraska star has been dreaming about for some time. Along with the other 2024 recruits, he is just excited to start the next chapter and finally get on campus.
"I’m really excited,” said Rezac. “I’m good friends with a couple of the other 2024 recruits, and I think everyone is pretty excited to be on the field together. Bodie (Kahoun) is probably the guy I talk to most, and I can’t wait to be in the same room as him and get better everyday.”
As a group, the 2024 recruiting class sounds fully bought in to what Notre Dame can accomplish moving forward. Rezac shares that excitement. According to the talented defender, they are looking to build something special in South Bend.
"I think the expectations for everyone is to make the playoffs every year, and in the near future win the whole thing,” he explained. "Coach Freeman and the whole staff is really good, and with the talent the team has and has been recruiting I think it’s just a matter of time.”
Rezac and Notre Dame will get their chance to make that push, and the next step is the summer program, which will be the Nebraska star's first chance to be an official part of the Irish program.
