Zelenskyy announces security agreement with one more country

Ukraine will sign a security guarantee agreement with Slovenia at the first opportunity, stated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“I had a phone conversation with the Prime Minister of Slovenia Robert Golob. I thanked him for his active support of the Peace Formula, including confirmation of his participation in the Peace Summit in Switzerland,” the President said.

He said that during the conversation, they also discussed the continuation of defense cooperation.

“Our teams are finalizing a bilateral security document within the framework of the G7 declaration. We agreed to sign it at the first opportunity,” the President said.

Zelenskyy also noted that he would count on Slovenia's support for the actual start of negotiations on Ukraine's EU accession.

Security guarantees

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Kyiv has raised the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine.

The main purpose of these agreements is to prevent further attempts of aggression in the future until the country joins NATO and is protected by Article 5 on collective defense.

As of now, seven EU countries have provided security guarantees to Ukraine. These include Germany, Denmark, France, Italy, Finland, the Netherlands, and Latvia. Agreements have also been signed with Canada and the United Kingdom.

In addition, the European Union has recently agreed on security guarantees with Ukraine. The agreement can be signed no later than the beginning of July.
