Why the competition was too much for local Fredericton supermarket
Well-being an being an independent grocery store, we don't have that buying power and as everyone knows the price of groceries today inflation, you know, so we don't have that that edge to compete with Walmart and you know Loblaws and Sobeys and whatnot. So you know we were, we were doing our best to of course taking the inventory that we can, but you know unfortunately we we could no longer compete with those. With those numbers. The traffic we had here or have you know it's there by one or two items. They're not buying 2-3, four, $500 worth of groceries that go into our competitors. You know, they would stop in and, you know, grab a, you know, grab a quart of milk and a loaf of bread and maybe a snack. You know, they weren't filling up their grocery carts. I want to ask about there's two nations crossing being built. Where a no frills location is going in, it's very close to Sedansas. Is it on? Is it on singers land? No, it's not on our land. I was quite taken back when I heard that that exactly what was going to happen with the relationship that we were having with the city that we have with the City of Fredericton because of course was the City Council that approved those businesses to go to be built there. So yeah, quite surprised that they they have approved that. Businesses to be built. How do you feel about it? How do you feel that it's there? Well, first of all, you know a little disappointed that they would they would build another grocery store so close to ours. So that of course is competition. Did that factor into your decision to close this 100%? It did 100% because we can't compete. You know, we got Walmart across the street. We can't compete with those folks against the buying power that we do not have as an independent grocery store.
