Ukraine frontline situation is concerning, Pentagon says

The Pentagon believes the situation on the frontline in Ukraine is complicated and concerning. The US also notes that the pause in assistance to Ukraine was not useful, says Pentagon Press Secretary Pat Ryder during a briefing.

When asked whether American weapons are reaching Ukraine quickly, he said that the United States was doing everything possible to provide critical ammunition and other weapons.

"We, as you've heard, Secretary Austin and others say we are working very hard to rush aid into Ukraine. Again, it's a challenging situation on the battlefield right now in Ukraine," Ryder said.

He added that the pause in US aid to Ukraine was not helpful, although other partners were helping. According to the Pentagon rep, the Russian military has taken advantage of the situation on the battlefield and is trying to move forward, which is concerning.

"Incremental as they (Russian troops - ed.) may be, it's certainly concerning. And we're going to continue to work closely with Ukraine and our international allies and partners to get them the security assistance they need," Ryder emphasized.

Escalation at front

In recent months, the situation on the frontline has deteriorated. Russian forces managed to capture Avdiivka after months of heavy fighting. After that, they expanded their offensive on the front.

The Russian army continues to advance in the Avdiivka direction and has also set its sights on the town of Chasiv Yar. Earlier, local authorities reported that the fighting had already reached the border of Chasiv Yar.

Last week, Russian troops launched a second offensive in the north of the Kharkiv region. The fighting is taking place near the city of Vovchansk.
