KUALA LUMPUR: Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman today completed a 200km run to protest the lack of allocations from the government, raising about RM160,000 for his constituency.
The Muda man, who started his run on Friday, was joined by Bersatu’s Putrajaya MP Radzi Jidin and Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal in the final 5km stretch of his run.
Upon his arrival outside the Parliament building, Syed Saddiq was greeted by other Perikatan Nasional MPs.
He said he had received contributions from about 2,000 donors, and was also handed money by members of the public while on his run.
“Some stopped to contribute RM50, RM100. One child even gave me RM1. It’s extraordinary because they have never met me face to face.
“They may never have set foot in Muar, either, but they shared the same aspirations as I do. That’s why I feel that this is not about Muar but Malaysia as a whole,” he told reporters after completing his run.
The former Muda president said the funds would be used to manage his service centre in Muar and distribute welfare aid to his constituents, as well as devices for students.
He previously said he had complied with the government’s requests to negotiate for an allocation, and had met with deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof twice, but that these discussions yielded no results.
