Princess Eugenie is thankful that her mom, Sarah Ferguson, has always supported her amid her scoliosis journey.

Queen Elizabeth's granddaughter, 34, shared a throwback image of herself and the Duchess of York, 64, on her official Instagram page on Saturday, June 29. In her caption, she thanked her mom for teaching her a valuable lesson about her recovery.

"My mum caught my scoliosis early and I was lucky enough to get the help I needed at 12 years old," Princess Eugenie wrote. "I thank her so much for that and also thank her for the confidence to be proud of my scar."

She continued, "She removed all the stigma around having scoliosis for me by confidently showing people what I’d been through and it took all the fear and anxiety out of being different at such a young age."

Princess Eugenie ended the post with an encouraging message: "I am forever grateful and wish everyone to be proud of their scars."

The image shared shows Eugenie as a child wearing a green gingham dress with a matching cardigan. She is seen holding her mom’s hand as they exit a black car.

The Duchess of York commented on the post, telling her daughter, "I am so touched by this and in awe of you. I hope this inspires young people to own their scars and life’s journey as you have so beautifully done."

Earlier this month, Princess Eugenie marked International Scoliosis Awareness Day by showing off her scar on Instagram. She shared three photos from her 2018 royal wedding day in her bridal gown, which proudly displayed the scar from her corrective spinal surgery at age 12.

"Today is International Scoliosis Awareness Day. I just wanted to share my scar and encourage anyone out there who’s gone through something similar to share theirs with me," Eugenie captioned the post.

"Let’s be proud of our scars!" she added.

The Duchess of York, meanwhile, has been candid about how she communicates her own health to her daughters, Eugenie and Princess Beatrice, after her recent cancer diagnoses.

"I have always brought up my girls to be so honest and frank that they know I’m going to tell it to them straight, however difficult it is," she told Hello! Magazine in a recent interview. "So when they said, 'Mummy, tell us the absolute truth — have they got all the cancer out?' and the answer was yes, they knew they were safe."

"I have the most exceptional family and I have an extraordinarily great team and I have an enormous ability to turn to joy," she also said in the interview.

In January, the author shared that she was diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer, following a post-operative analysis of a mole removed during reconstructive surgery, after her mastectomy.
