2024 John Deere Classic picks, predictions, odds, field: Golf insider fading Jordan Spieth at TPC Deere Run

Former PGA champion Jason Day returns to TPC Deere Run for the first time in more than a decade when he tees off in the 2024 John Deere Classic beginning on Thursday in Silvis, Ill. The 36-year-old Day has played in the John Deere Classic five times, but not since 2011, and has never missed the cut. His best finish is 15th, which he did twice, in 2009 and '10. He enters this year's tournament as a +3000 longshot to win.

Meanwhile, two-time John Deere Classic champion Jordan Spieth, defending champion Sepp Straka and Sungjae Im are co-favorites in the latest 2024 John Deere Classic odds at +1800. Aaron Rai (+2200), Maverick McNealy (+2500), Keith Mitchell (+2500), and Denny McCarthy (+2500) round out the top seven choices in the 2024 John Deere Classic field. One surprise: Nejad is completely fading Jordan Spieth, even though he is one of three co-favorites in the John Deere Classic odds at +1800. Spieth has a history of success at TPC Deere Run, having won the tournament twice in 2013 and '15. But he hasn't played in the tournament since his last victory there.

In addition, Spieth has struggled mightily around the green this season. He ranks 78th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained: around the green (+0.068), which is a career-worst. "His short odds in this tournament are exclusively based on name recognition, and I think he belongs in the +3000 range," Nejad told SportsLine.

Instead, Nejad is high on the chances of defending champion Sepp Straka. Also +1800 in the John Deere Classic odds, Straka has four top 10 and nine top 25 finishes in 17 starts this year. He is coming off a 23rd-place finish in the Travelers Championship two weeks ago.

Last year, Straka closed with a nine-under 62 on Sunday to win the John Deere Classic by two strokes. It was his second and most recent PGA tour title.
