Fans back 'Karen' who complained about streamer filming in restaurant
Things got awkward at Popeyes for ExtraEmily (Twitch)
Twitch star ExtraEmily has been annoying customers at a restaurant and many viewers have agreed that she was in the wrong for making too much noise.
Livestreaming has become much more than just broadcasting yourself playing your favourite video game, as many content creators now explore cities and take on challenges in the outside world.
ExtraEmily is one of the latter and has become one of the most popular In Real Life streamers on Twitch, thanks to stunts like when she cooked a steak in a car park but was accused of making meth.
These streams can cause friction with other people, however, which was what happened when she filmed herself eating at the Popeyes restaurant, which led to a woman calling her out.
ExtraEmily’s most recent stream saw her on a quest to find the best chicken sandwich in her area. She had already been to KFC, McDonald’s, and Shake Shack, when she paid a visit to Popeyes.
While sitting down, eating and describing her chicken sandwich, a woman came up behind ExtraEmily, after a subscription notification went off out loud, and said: ‘This is so ridiculous.’
The streamer, stunned, said it was time to leave, but instead of laughing about it, fans on Reddit were actually on the woman’s side.
Recently, fans have been criticising streamers for intruding on people’s peace and privacy, with ArcticSwimx saying in a Reddit thread:
‘I don’t mind the streaming, but bringing a speaker into a restaurant, which blasts out dumb sounds and TTS [text to speech], is where I draw the line. Karen [a name given to the unknown woman] might be in the right on this one.’
‘If I was having a meal and I heard a loud donation every five minutes, I’d say something too,’ Slampy15 added.
ExtraEmily spotted the woman leaving the restaurant for Wendy’s across the way and wondered if she had lost Popeyes a customer because of livestreaming.
The restaurant was the next one on ExtraEmily’s list too and her fans pleaded with her to follow the woman to the other restaurant, but luckily she didn’t go in and used the drive-through instead.
If she did go into the restaurant it could’ve ended in a confrontation, similar to when content creators Kai Cenat and IShowSpeed were called ‘idiots’ by an old woman, for their antics in a supermarket earlier this year.
