AFL round 16: Carlton lock down second with MCG win, Power coach Ken Hinkley emotional after vital victory, Hawks crush Eagles
The Hawks swept aside the Eagles to stay in the race for finals on Sunday, after Carlton cruised to victory at the MCG and the Power gave Ken Hinkley a vital win.
Carlton consolidated their top-two spot with an impressive victory over Richmond, taking a game-and-a-half margin on their next nearest rivals Fremantle.
Captain Patrick Cripps starred with 40 disposals, 14 clearances — including nine centre breaks 1 and eight score involvements as the Blues tore the Tigers' defence open in a brilliant seven-goal second term.
An emotional Ken Hinkley acknowledged the "tough week" for his side after Port Adelaide gave their under-pressure coach a vital win over St Kilda at Docklands.
The Power held on in a nailbiting final term to beat the Saints by two points, putting the visitors back into the top eight.
"We're two points from the top four, it felt like (this week) we're bottom of the ladder," Hinkley told Fox Footy after the game.
In the final game of round 16, Hawthorn led from start to finish to beat the Eagles by 61 points in Perth.
