Orban meets Macron ahead of Hungary's EU Presidency
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has met with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris just before Hungary assumes the presidency of the Council of the EU on July 1st. This meeting, a working lunch at the Elysee Palace, comes ahead of the European Council's appointments of new EU leaders. Key topics included support for Ukraine and the European defence industry, especially significant given Auburn's historically close ties to Moscow. Macron's team sees this as a crucial opportunity to prepare for Hungary's upcoming presidency. This visit was also politically charged as Auburn recently criticised Germany's migration policy and the way the EU has allocated top jobs. Excluding some other countries within the EU because of political and party affiliations, according to Alban.
