BBC Strictly star's rough Glastonbury turn-out after crowd abandons set for Stormzy show

Stormzy playing at Glastonbury Festival in 2019

Formerly Strictly star Seann Walsh once made a major blunder at Glastonbury Festival - and this year's round of performances will have brought back unpleasant memories for him. The comedian recalled how he'd been performing in the cabaret tent back in 2019, only to make the mistake of mentioning that Stormzy was on nearby.

"I did a set at the cabaret tent at the same time Stormzy was closing the Pyramid," he cringed on Twitter as he relived the moment. "I went on to about 50 people in a 2000 capacity tent. I thought I better reference being on at the same time as Stormzy. As soon as I did, a woman jumped up & ran out of the tent!"

One of his followers responded: "Stormzy referenced being on at the same time as you too. Not sure if anyone jumped up." He shot back: "I think what I said was something about him having to reference me!"

Seann, who also appeared on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! alongside disgraced Health Secretary Matt Hancock back in 2023, had a very similar experience to his co-star after being caught in an illicit kiss. He had smooched with Strictly pro Katya Jones outside a London pub during their show stint together, despite the fact that both had been coupled up at the time.

Seann had been living with the actress Rebecca Humphries in a committed relationship, while Katya was married to fellow dancer Neil Jones. Even more mortifying was that the pictures of the kiss surfaced on Rebecca's birthday - a time when she should have been celebrating.

The public began to turn against Seann and his career took a dive.

Both Seann and Katya made a public apology on It Takes Two, but it didn't seem to have been enough to save his reputation.

The following year, the Stormzy moment caused further embarrassment - and Seann says he's so traumatised by the experience that prompted his downward spiral that he's even triggered by memories of the show when seeing a "Strictly No Parking" sign.

He subsequently revealed on the Wonderbox podcast that he feels he returned to the entertainment industry too soon after being caught with Katya.

Seann Walsh still struggles with Strictly memories

"The audiences didn't know how to feel. They'd get up, they'd leave. Sometimes they'd tell me that they were appalled by me," he cringed.

He added: "'I said sorry. I sat on Jonathan Ross's TV show and apologised. I sat next to will.i.am and Samuel L. Jackson and apologised.

"That will forever be the weirdest moment of my life and I have to say probably the worst moment of my life."

Meanwhile, in other Glastonbury news, there was a furore this weekend after political slogans and Palestinian flags at the event sparked a backlash, and calls for the festival to have its licence revoked.
