Jamie Campbell Bower on Joining The 'Kevin Costner Family' and Crying on Set of 'Stranger Things'
What was it like to get that call and then to know that your character is really going to be going toe to toe with the man himself? Yeah, well, I got the script first of all, and I just fell in love with this story. I fell in love with these characters. I fell in love with what I was reading. And I go with that. I felt excited. And then I got to meet Kevin in his incredible heart and his beautiful mind, and I just fell in love with him as well. So I was elated, absolutely elated. It's an absolute privilege and a blessing. Yeah. That's how I felt. What was it like to be on set with him as he's both acting with you and directing you? How does he go about, like, blocking a scene that you guys are going to do together? Oh, I couldn't give away the magic secrets, that's for sure. But I think what's brilliant about Kevin is obviously, you know, he has, you know, he's an actor and he's a director. He loves his actors. He allows us the space to be free. There's a freedom and an intuition. That's why we're there, right? He sees something in us that he that he wants in his movie. And, and then he also does this great thing where he doesn't let us lean back on our laurels too much. He's going to push us, you know, And that's what the greatest directors do. They always bring something new out of you that you didn't know was there before. And I loved it. It was exciting. It was electric. Electric is the only word that I have. What new did it bring out of you? What was what was the thing that you now do that you didn't do before working with a Kevin Cost? That's my secret to keep. It's your secret to show us on the next season of Stranger Things. Maybe we'll see. We'll see. Yeah, exactly. Henry ends up being being a Western cowboy show always takes us in strange directions that we didn't expect. But what it is it like to be wrapping up that series as well? Because similar to this movie where it's, you know, this long held thing that Kevin's been holding, you know, that is something that is beloved to the creators, beloved to the fans as well. You know, what is it like to be a part of wrapping up that story? Yeah. I get asked this question a lot. I think, you know, for me, I joined in season four. I know that this is a huge part of both the fans lives and, you know, a lot of the cast lives. You know, I'm very grateful to be a part of this show and I love it to bits. It has in a way changed my life, you know, and but within that, you know, I'm a very much a day by day kind of guy. You know, I wake up, I'm grateful to have a roof of my head and food in my fridge And and that's how I look at it. That's just honestly how I look at it. It's it's it's what can I do today to best serve this story in this moment? That's all I can do. So I'm not it's not the end of time for me yet. You know, there's a long might feel different when we when I get on that last day, like end of season 4I, I burst into tears. I was in full vecner. But we're not there yet. We're not there yet. What is it like to cry in full vecner makeup? You'd have to ask the crew. I think they were I I remember saying, I know it's really uncool to see a monster cry, but I think they were probably quite perturbed by seeing this, you know, gooey squiggy thing with tears rolling down his face. Yeah, last day though, because they don't have to reapply on the next day. Yeah, exactly. And also, why are you crying on the first day would be my question. It's a lot of makeup. It's a lot. It's a lot to do. I guess my last thing is, you know, what will be kind of that that moment that you think of when it comes to working on Horizon? What was that? You know, either hardest, coolest, most memorable day on this set. Listen, I hope that this comes across in the movie and and and that's what I'm after. But as actors, we're always hoping for these great moments of what I like to call magic. And we were fortunate we had a few of those. You know, they can't be scripted, they can't be rehearsed. They just happen in that moment. And we we had a few. And I'm just those, those are the things that will stick with me.
