AirAsia X (AAX), a leading low-cost airline in the Asia-Pacific region, has announced the launch of direct flights between Nairobi, Kenya, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The announcement comes just a week after AirAsia received accolades for the World's Best Low-Cost Airline and the Best Low-Cost Airline in Asia for the 15th consecutive year at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2024.

Cost of AAX flights

The inaugural flight will take off on November 15, 2024, marking the first direct connection between the two cities by a low-cost carrier.

According to a press release seen by Tuko.co.ke, Kenyans will soon access free seats from Nairobi to Kuala Lumpur, a promotion that is exclusively available for booking on the AirAsia MOVE app (formerly known as the AirAsia Superapp) from now until July 14, 2024, for the travel period between

Travellers can purchase their flight tickets to Malaysia for KSh 18,899 (USD135) in economy seats or KSh 69,699 (USD499) in a premium flatbed.

The new route includes a seamless Fly-Thru connection, linking Kenya to over 130 destinations across Southeast Asia, Northern Asia, Central Asia, and Australia.

How travellers and Kenya will benefit

Kenyan travellers will benefit from visa-free travel to Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore, with visa-on-arrival available in Indonesia.

Ekitela Moru, the High Commissioner-Designate of Kenya to Malaysia, celebrated the new route, stating,

“The launch of AirAsia X’s direct flight from Kuala Lumpur to Nairobi is a momentous occasion for Kenya and Malaysia relations. This connection opens new avenues for enhanced trade, investment, and tourism between the two countries.”

Benyamin Ismail, CEO of AirAsia X, added,

“Embarking on this new adventure into Africa is truly exhilarating. We anticipate carrying over 156,000 travelers annually on this route, strengthening ties and boosting tourism between Kenya and Malaysia.”
