West Ham technical director Tim Steidten insisted the club will not have to sell players to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules and promised a ‘busy summer’ of transfer activity.
The Hammers officially unveiled Julen Lopetegui as their new head coach at the London Stadium this afternoon and the Spaniard was joined by Steidten, who is leading the club’s recruitment, at his first press conference.
While Lopetegui will still give his input on potential signings, Steidten has the lead role of ensuring deals get done.
Several clubs in the Premier League have been forced to part with players in the last week in order to meet the PSR rules, with Newcastle selling Elliott Anderson to Nottingham Forest while Douglas Luiz left Aston Villa to join Juventus.
But West Ham, who sold academy product Declan Rice to Arsenal for £105million last summer, are in a strong financial position.

‘The board and the owner did a good job in the last couple of years,’ Steidten said. ‘We are able to spend money and don’t have to sell.
‘I cannot tell you about the typical positions or player names but it will be a busy summer for all of us, for sure.
‘The relationship with Julen in terms of recruitment is really important. We are talking almost every day, especially in terms of what type of profiles we are looking for.’
Lopetegui was keen to stress he will work with Steidten, who at times clashed with previous manager David Moyes, on transfers.
‘We have to highlight that we are happy with the players we have. We have a good platform. We are going to try to improve of course because each season is different.
‘The demand is going to be very high. We know the standard of the Premier League. We have to be ready. We have to take advantage, we have to work very hard to be able to be ready in the moment to start with a high level.
‘Of course we are going to need players as soon as possible but we know it’s not easy sometimes and all of us together we are going to work in the same way.’
