Report: Bayer Leverkusen “ready” to sell Jonathan Tah to Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich’s on-again, off-again pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen center-back Jonathan Tah is back to “on” again.
Despite the signing of Stuttgart left-footer Hiroki Itō, the Bavarians are apparently looking to continue remaking their backline for incoming head coach Vincent Kompany. The key development, per Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, is that Leverkusen resistance to the sale has at last broken down. Plettenberg wrote on Twitter:
Understand Leverkusen is now ready to sell Jonathan #Tah!
▫️Both clubs are moving closer together. The negotiations between the clubs are now progressing positively
▫️Also, because Leverkusen know that Tah will not extend his contract and the 28 y/o has made it clear again that he wants to sign with FC Bayern until 2029!
▫️Simon Rolfes and Max Eberl are working towards an agreement!
The German national team starter already seems determined to make the move and so far the clubs have been apart on their valuation. Plettenberg suggests that the Bayern bid will come in at “€20-25m” (as captured via @iMiaSanMia).
Tah, 28, has a contract with Leverkusen that expires next June. A deal to 2029 would take him to 33 and likely cement the departure of at least one other Bayern center-back: Matthijs de Ligt, Dayot Upamecano, or Kim Min-jae.
If Bayern completes the signing, it will have poached starting center-backs from both Bundesliga teams that finished above them in the standings in 2023/24.
