Sunak vs Starmer: It's the biggest moment left in this campaign
Well, I'm here in the spin room just a little while before the last head-to-head debate of this general election campaign. It's probably also the biggest remaining moment of this general election campaign is certainly the last moment probably ever actually, that Rishi Sunak and Sir Keir Starmer, the two men who might become Prime Minister after this general election, will stand on a stage together battling it out on all these sorts of issues that this general election campaign has been fought over. And the stakes could not be higher with just over a week to go because both leaders have a very important task to accomplish. Now, you'll have seen there's loads of polls. You can't move for polls. This general election campaign, whatever they say publicly, the truth is, is broadly both campaigns believe them. Conservative candidates I speak to, they think that as it stands, they are going to lose this general election, perhaps might even lose it quite big. Well, if that's right, what does Rishi Sunak need to do tonight? Nothing short of transform this general election campaign, turn it on its head, find a way to seize hold of the agenda and wrestle the campaign onto his turf. The turf the Conservatives want it to be on for the last week until polling day. What's Keir Starmer's task is the exact opposite. He needs to hold tight, he needs to find a way to seal the deal, seal the deal that so many Labour people I speak to really do think they might be about to sign with the British public. They think they're 14 years in opposition, might be about to come to a head. So you can see it's a massive moment for both leaders. Let's see how it plays out.
