'Patient' McClymont set for Women's Amateur Championship final

Scots golfer Lorna McClymont said her patient approach was key to booking her place in Saturday's 121st Women’s Amateur Championship final at Portmarnock.

The 23-year-old, from Milngavie, scored a surprise win over Sweden's Louise Rydqvist - the highest ranked player still in the tournament - to secure her place in the final.

Now she will face American Melanie Green in a 36-hole decider on Saturday in a bid to add the Women's Amateur Championship title to the Scottish Women's crown she won in May.

“I can’t believe I’ve reached the final. It’s pretty cool,” she said.

“I think staying patient was the key to success this afternoon and having that acceptance when something didn’t end up well.

“I also stayed in the moment and feel enjoying it is the most important thing."

“Tomorrow it’s just the same as any other 36 holes but obviously there’s a bit more to do," said McClymont.

"It’s just kind of having the same kind of mindset as today and over the last few days.”
