White Sox hurler seen as perfect fit to provide 'bulldog-type' outings for Braves
As the Atlanta Braves prepare for the second half of their season and a deep playoff push, they’re looking to add a starter.
Atlanta has been linked to everyone from Garrett Crochet to Luis Severino, but it might behoove the Braves to get on the phone with the Chicago White Sox.
Chicago’s right-hander Erick Fedde is a perfect fit for Atlanta, according to David O’Brien and Jim Bowden of The Athletic.
“Fedde is thriving in his first season back in the majors after a year in South Korea,” O’Brien and Bowden said. “The 31-year-old was seventh in MLB in innings (100 1/3) and 14th in the AL with a 3.23 ERA after his Wednesday start against the Dodgers … Fedde would provide some security (to the Braves) entering the offseason with Max Fried eligible for free agency, Charlie Morton pondering retirement, and Spencer Strider coming back from elbow surgery.”
“The Braves really need one more veteran starter … to protect against injuries to their veteran starters in the second half of the season,” Bowden added. “Fedde is a solid mid-rotation starter who has figured it out and provides bulldog-type innings that will be crucial come August and September.”
Fedde is signed through next season, in which he makes $7.5 million — a bargain deal from Atlanta’s perspective.
Will the Braves make a deal for Fedde, or will they satisfy their starting pitching need elsewhere?
