Buffy the Vampire Slayer Star Joins Dexter Prequel Series in Key Role
Dexter has proven to be a very profitable series, and the original show counted with eight seasons. The series returned in 2020 with a limited series called Dexter: New Blood, with a prequel and additional spin-off series in the works. The prequel, called Dexter: Original Sin, has just added a Buffy the Vampire Slayer star to the mix.
Per Variety, Sarah Michelle Gellar is one of the new stars of the upcoming Dexter: Original Sin. The series has recently unveiled the lead characters, which include Patrick Gibson as a younger Dexter Morgan, Christian Slater as Harry Morgan, and Molly Brown as Debra. In the original series, the characters were portrayed by Michael C. Hall, James Remar, and Jennifer Carpenter.

Grey's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey has landed his next big role in a TV series.
Sarah Michelle Gellar will play Dexter Morgan's new boss at the Miami Metro Police Department, Tanya Martin, in a special guest role. Aside from her role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, her TV credits include Paramount+'s Wolf Pack, The CW's Ringer, and CBS' The CrazyOnes. The actress shared the news on her Instagram account, writing in the caption: "It’s going to be a bloody good ride," with three blood emojis.
“Sarah Michelle Gellar is a pop culture icon who perfectly rounds out our best-in-class cast featuring Christian Slater and Patrick Dempsey among others,” Nina Diaz, Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios & Paramount Media Networks president, said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to have her return to the Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios family and join the origin story of the Dexter franchise.”
Gellar joins many other famous names in the upcoming Dexter prequel series. So far, Dexter: Original Sin has cast Patrick Gibson as Dexter, Christian Slater as Harry, Patrick Dempsey as Aaron Spencer, the Captain of the Miami Metro Homicide unit, James Martinez as Angel Batista, Christina Milian as Maria LaGuerta, Captain of Miami Metro Homicide, Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka, and Reno Wilson as Bobby Watt, an original character for the show.

What Is Dexter: Original Sin About?
The upcoming Showtime Dexter prequel will be set in 1991, 15 years before the first episode of the original TV series aired. The new series will follow a young Dexter in his transition from a student to a forensics intern at the Miami Metro Police Department. In this new change, he also has to balance his serial killer urges.
Dexter: Original Sin will have the original show's showrunner, Clyde Phillips return for the prequel. Phillips also handled the series' limited series sequel, Dexter: New Blood. He will executive produce the prequel alongside original Dexter star Michael C. Hall, Scott Reynolds, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, and director Michael Lehmann.
Dexter: Original Sin doesn't have a release date yet.
