Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman.
Sweden has released the names of the first six players on its roster who will suit up for the 4 Nations Face-Off in February 2025. The event will occur from Feb. 12, 2025, until Feb. 20, 2025, including Sweden, the United States, Canada, and Finland. It will occur at the Bell Centre in Montreal and the TD Garden in Boston.
Sweden’s first six roster players are:
The roster will consist of 20 skaters and three goaltenders, meaning 17 additional players will be named later this year.
Sweden’s first six players come with a wealth of NHL experience. Hedman is a former Norris Trophy winner as the league’s best defenseman and has been nominated for the award on six occasions. He is also a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020 and 2021.
Karlsson has taken home the Norris Trophy on three separate occasions and was the first defenseman since 1991-92 to record 100 points in a season when he did so during the 2022-23 season.
Forsling is fresh off his Stanley Cup win with the Florida Panthers and led all their defensemen with 10 goals and 29 assists in 79 regular-season games. He was once an afterthought in the NHL but has emerged as a high-end NHL defenseman since being claimed off waivers by the Panthers in January 2021.
Forsberg hit 40 goals for the second time in three seasons when he lit the lamp 48 times this year. He played in all 82 games this season for Nashville and led the team with 94 points. The 29-year-old is an eight-time 20-goal scorer and a four-time 30-goal scorer.
Nylander had a career year in Toronto, posting 40 goals and 58 assists in 82 games. The former 8th overall pick has been nearly a point-a-game player throughout his career, having tallied 217 goals and 311 assists in 603 NHL games.
The 31-year-old Zibanejad had an off year this year but still posted 26 goals and 46 assists in 81 games. He was a point-a-game player in the playoffs with three goals and 13 assists in 16 games. However, his overall play in the playoffs left much to be desired, and he will certainly be looking for a bounce-back next season. His shooting percentage dropped to just 11.8% this season from his career average of 13.2%.
