Tesco just made a major change to its £3.40 supermarket meal deal

If your go-to lunch is a Tesco meal deal, then we’ve got good news for you, as the supermarket has just made an exciting change to its offering.

More than 20 new products have been added to the range this week, and a number of existing items have been given an upgrade.

The retailer claims the new items are restaurant-inspired, and the mains include dishes like Hoisin Duck Noodle Salad, Eat Your Greens Feta & Grains Salad, a Finest British Roast Beef & Rosemary Fries Sandwich which is inspired by the classic ‘Steak Frites’ and is part of the Premium Meal Deal.

There are also several creative limited-edition mains including a Korean-style Fried Chicken & Rice Salad which pairs southern fried chicken breasts with pickled red slaw, spinach, and a crispy fried onion topping, on a bed of rice seasoned with Korean style BBQ sauce.

Then for the Premium Meal deals, there’s a Middle Eastern-style British Chicken & Tabbouleh Salad which combines a Tabbouleh bulgur wheat salad with parsley, mint, and tomatoes, baby beetroot leaves and rocket.

The salad is topped with chicken breast marinated in Middle Eastern spices, with a cool yoghurt dressing and harissa houmous flavoured with a hint of rose.

For the improved existing products, several dishes contain ‘upgraded’ ingredients, such as thicker slices of bread for a more satisfying bite, creamier and richer mayonnaise made by using whole eggs, and switching to plum tomatoes for added juiciness.

Flavours have also been enhanced across the sandwiches, with ‘carefully crafted’ seasonings being added to the Tesco Chicken Salad Sandwich and the Tesco Sausage, Bacon & Egg Triple Sandwich.

The new mayo recipe can be tasted in the Prawn Mayonnaise Sandwich, and those who love a BLT might notice that the smoked bacon has been improved too and the sarnie is now packed with rashers of bacon smoked over beechwood.

Tesco’s meal deal costs £3.40 for a main, snack and drink if you have a Clubcard, or for non-members it’s £3.90.

Those wanting to upgrade to the Premium Meal deal will pay £5 with a Clubcard, or £5.50 without, getting a wider range of options to choose from.

And it’s not been all that long since Tesco last made changes to its meal deal menu, adding a number of special sandwiches to celebrate National Sandwich Week.

The lunchtime treads included the Tesco Summer Edition Smokehouse Pulled Pork & BBQ Bean Sub, Greek Style Chicken Gyros Wrap, and the Japanese Style Yuzu Chicken Sandwich.

Fans of the Premium Meal Deal were able to try the Tesco Finest Summer Edition Argentinian Chimichurri Sandwich with chilli and herb bread.

And also joining the line-up was the Indian Style Miso Masala Chicken Wrap, which includes miso masala chicken with red cabbage, mango chutney, and a spinach and rocket salad enveloped in a spiced tortilla wrap.

Sarah Bryer, sandwich creator at Tesco, said: ‘As it’s British Sandwich Week, it’s the perfect time to try something new and switch up your usual meal deal combo.

‘Like many of our customers, I love trying new and different flavours and cuisines when I go abroad, which inspired us to create 8 new options to try as part of the Tesco Meal Deal.

‘My personal recommendations are the Miso Masala Wrap because I love the taste of vibrant Indian spices and the mix of miso and masala, and the Pork Char Sui Wrap which has a great sweet and salty contrast with just a hint of spice.’
