Danny Murphy gives his ideal starting XI for match against Slovakia
What is your England side for Sunday? I'd go with the same back four for the, you know, I think we look solid. Obviously sure isn't ready. If he was and he played some minutes then of course you'd want a left side or at the, you know, left foot to the left back. But I'd stay with the same back four. I would personally play Jude in a in a more central position with Declan and he can still go forward from there. But I think he's defensively sound enough, brilliant on the ball. He's good under pressure. I'd play Foden as a 10, I'd play Gordon on the left. I'd leave Kane in just because I think knockout games, big game player and with the pace around him, that's going to help him, especially with Gordon on the left. And I'd put Palmer in ahead of Sacca. He's only made one change in three games. If there's one change he has to make, what's the one change you'd make? Cole Palmer? I, I think he's, I love Sacca by the way. I, I, I, I admire everything about him. He's a wonderful talent. Well, Cole Palmer at the moment looks like a player even in those 20 minutes. There's got complete confidence and belief in himself to change games and make things happen. He plays with a freedom and an authority and an arrogance that very few players have at that age. And he's in, obviously he's in a rich way in the form he wants to point, prove a point to the world. He makes passes, he can score a goal, he's just a beautiful, elegant footballer who impacts football matches. And the one difference with Palmer compared to Saka, I would say obviously Saka's quicker and better than one on ones. But Palmer, when the game's not really finding or the ball's not finding him and he's not impacting the game, he finds a way, which he's done with Chelsea so many times of drifting into different areas and positions on the pitch to impact the game, which is which is an unbelievable talent to have and a belief in himself. And I think that that 20 minutes alone, I think deserves rewarded. And if if you put him in for someone else, it's not really the position he's been playing that often for child. I know he's played as A10 a few times and he probably could play that one. But I think off the right where he can drift into those areas. And if you add Gordon with the balance on the left he'd given you with, I think Palmer would be the the obvious one for me. I mean, it's not like anyone's been amazing so far, but going to Sunday, who do you think's the one player that started but you think they've got to make way? I think probably the mid. I mean Gallagher's going to have to come out. I feel for him because he you know, he's he's been he's been a bit part and then he's been asked to play and then he's been dragged at half time. But we we need someone else alongside Decker, whether that be Bellingham or Mania, we'll have to wait and see. But that I think if Gareth was to start Gallagher in there alongside Rice again, there would there would be a lot of questions asked. And it's not a disrespect to Gallagher because I thought I thought he was the right person to bring in because we needed some legs and and some tenacity, but it didn't work. But that that will be the one change I think everybody's expecting. Any other changes I think would be a surprise because Gareth's kept the same team, more or less. I think. I think that's right. You know, if Boden, sorry, if if Gordon was to come in or Palmer was to come in, I think people would be more surprised at that than they would be at Mainu or better than start in midfield with you advise.
