For weeks, Jimmy Butler was all people could talk about when it came to the Miami Heat. His contract situation could have potentially shaken up the landscape of the NBA.
One of the best players in the world, especially when it comes to the playoffs, reports emerged that Butler was seeking a max contract extension from the Heat this summer.
Butler was believed to prefer staying in Miami but the Heat's apparent reluctance to hand him an extension could have changed things and led to a move.
Fortunately, it looks like that won't be happening and the dark cloud of uncertainty over Butler's future in Miami has dissipated.
Brian Windhorst appeared on The Pat McAfee Show, where he said regarding Butler: "From what I understand, Jimmy Butler is going to plan to be back with the Miami Heat next year and even if there's no extension, he's going to focus on next season."
Windhorst believes that Butler wants to be in Miami and has told teams who have asked about his situation that he is 'solid in Miami'.
Also, NBA Insider Shams Charania said on Stadium about Butler and Miami: "I'm told he will not be signing an extension with the Heat or any other team ahead of his opt-out in 2025 free agency. This clears up any notion of a trade demand out of Jimmy Butler. He intends to play out next season. He has an affinity for Miami, wants to be with the Heat next season."
Charania also mentioned that Butler is determined to have a big season next year and set himself up for a major payday in 2025 free agency.
So, all things considered, it looks like Butler will be continuing to play his basketball in South Beach come next season although his long-term future remains uncertain.
Rumors suggested that there were quite a few teams willing to hand him a max contract extension this summer and if he ends up having a great season, do not expect that to change next year even though he would be 35 at that point.
Now, it remains to be seen whether the Heat are able to strengthen over the offseason and challenge for the Championship again, in what could potentially turn out to be Butler's last year with the franchise.
