Star Trek: Prodigy's Future at Netflix Gets Hopeful Update
After its cancelation on Paramount+, and the ensuing fan campaign to keep the show alive, Star Trek: Prodigy finally landed at Netflix. Season 2 is set to premiere this summer on the streaming platform, and creators and executive producers Kevin and Dan Hageman have talked about their desires for Season 3.
In an interview with ScreenRant, The Hageman Brothers sat down to discuss Star Trek: Prodigy Season 2, and how the production team feels about Prodigy moving forward. "Well, it's been a while [since] we finished [Season 2]," explained Kevin Hageman. "We don't have offices anymore. We're in our homes right now. I know that everyone in our crew – we – had such a delight working on this show. So, I look forward to that day when we can make that call, we get a call from Alex Kurtzman, and they're like, 'Netflix has an appetite [for more Prodigy].' Whether it's an animated film, a sequel, or if it's a third season. But to be able to call up our crew and actors, I know everyone who can would love to come back."

The first season of Star Trek: Prodigy was warmly received by fans and critics alike, garnering a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an average rating of 8.1/10. The series is meant to be Star Trek for the whole family. In other words, it is a kid-oriented version of the franchise, as well as being heavily inspired by Star Trek: Voyager. Despite touting themselves as "the home of Star Trek," Paramount+ canceled the release of Season 2, despite it already being nearly done, in the name of cost-cutting. Luckily, Netflix stepped in and picked up the series, bankrolling the release of the second season.
