'We're still waiting on her' | Prayer vigil held in honor of beloved 88-year-old Dallas woman still missing after 2 weeks

DALLAS — The continued search for Ms. Myrtle Polk is only becoming more urgent. The 88-year-old woman was last seen on the 1100 block of Indian Creek Trail in Dallas June 8th, her son told WFAA.

That means the beloved matriarch in the Singing Hills Community has been missing for 2 weeks now, and as the days get longer, they also get hotter. Sunday, DFW hit 100 degrees, and nobody knows where Ms. Myrtle is or how she is.

She is by all accounts a pillar in her community, her son Philip Polk told WFAA. She's been a devout member of her church for more than 30 years, and a dedicated DISD teacher for more than 40.

Sunday, dressed in all white, friends, family and even strangers, filled her front lawn for a candlelight vigil, where they prayed for her safe return.

Philip made it clear he and everyone else will hopeful and optimistic until his mother is found unharmed.

"We’re still here waiting on her, we still believe we’re going to be reunited," he told WFAA at the start of the vigil. "And for her to not give up the way we’re not giving up. So, if she hears this that’s the message, I’d want her to have. Everyone who's here loves her and is waiting for her to come home."

Philip said his mother does have dementia, and right now, he chooses to believe she’s just confused and lost. But he also recognizes at this point police cannot rule anything out.

"[Ms. Myrtle] is so kind to us, loving," her niece, Teresa Davis said. "Takes care of everybody and loves on everyone, she’s just a kindhearted person,"

"I miss her, and I want her home found safely," family friend Charlotte Lester told WFAA. "So we can love on her some more, for another 80 something years."
