This is the Land Rover Defender 110 AT35, and we’re pretty sure it’s been taking performance enhancing drugs. Somebody get the anti-doping team on the phone, we’re going to need a bigger pot for the urine sample.

The AT35 is the work of Banbury-based explorers Arctic Trucks (yes, them of North Pole fame) and is apparently the result of five years of testing and development.

It gets the name from its 35in BFGoodrich tyres and you’re able to spec either KO2 All-Terrain items or proper KM3 Mud-Terrains if you’re intending to utilise the AT35’s full potential. It’s not the name you’re worried about right now though, is it? It’s those GIANT arch extensions.

They do make the Defender AT35 look rather imposing, although we’re told by its makers that while driving on the road, compliance, roadholding and steering feel are “surprisingly positive and fluid”.

The wheels inside those massive tyres are 20in forged items and customers can spec either an Arctic Trucks-modified version of Land Rover’s L663 air suspension system, or a Bilstein 10-position adjustable performance suspension setup that adds an extra 5mm in height. Because bigger is always better.

The conversion apparently takes between two and three weeks and includes the addition of things like enlarged mud flaps, extended side steps and extra badging. There’s also ‘premium interior mats’ and optional lightbars or leather interior upgrades.

This kind of look (and the improved approach and departure angles) doesn’t come cheap, though. Prices start at £29,995 before VAT for the conversion, while the Defender 110 V8 (because of course you want the biggest engine) currently starts at an eye-watering £111,795. Worth it?
