Sifiso Hlanti’s agent Sizwe Ntshangase spoke out after the left-back was released by Kaizer Chiefs this week

The 34-year-old former Bafana Bafana defender was released alongside Keagan Dolly and Siyethemba Sithebe. The club has been changing ahead of next season. With Nasreddine Nabi taking over, the Soweto Giants are letting go of several players.

Hlanti’s agent Ntshangase said Kaizer Chiefs told his player that he would be assessed by the new coach. Speaking to Andile Ncube on Sports Night Amplified, the agent Amakhosi did not engage with him about the defender’s contract

“Chiefs said the new coach would assess Hlanti, but he didn’t even train and be seen by any member of the new technical team when Chiefs called him this week to say that his contract will not be renewed,” he said.

“Chiefs didn’t engage with me about not renewing Hlanti’s contract but they met with him directly. The team told Hlanti that he served them well this season in the last week of the games, but they said they will have to wait for the incoming coach to come assess him and make a decision.

“We did engage the club to try find out where they headed with Hlanti and what their thinking is, but we were not getting a direct response. As an agent, you say to your player, let us talk men to men and you agree how you both want to proceed in terms of the career direction given that the contract is coming up for expiration,” he concluded.

In June last year, Kaizer Chiefs renewed Hlanti’s contract by just one year. The defender played 21 league matches for the Glamour Boys, scoring one goal. The former Bidvest Wits player is now without a club and will rely on his agent to find him a new team.
