Downed trees in New Jersey lead to intensive damage to homes
So we went ahead straight out to Union County where nasty overnight storms cause a variety of damage and issues around our state. News 12 New Jersey's Tony Caputo is in mountainside this morning. And Tony, good morning to you. What are you seeing out there? We're seeing a lot of tree damage and home damage out here in mountainside. I'm almost wondering if this was the Ground Zero of this storm, if you will, because everywhere we're driving around, we're just seeing this type of damage. Look at this tree just split in half. This is mill lane and globe Ave. right at the entrance to an industrial park and again, just ripped apart from this storm last night. Now let me show you some other damage as well. This is a home not far from here. Longview Dr. drone 12 above the home this morning. Roof split in half. It appears it was recently purchased as well. There's an under contract sign out front. So you can think of what those folks are going through right now knowing that they just bought the home and this damage happens during the storm last night. It's a neighbor's tree that crossed the property line and again smashing into the roof, ripping it in half. Meanwhile, around the corner from there, there were trees down all over Short and Wyoming Drive here in town. They just took a beating. During last night's storm, many of them down at several homes in that area almost looked. Circular, if you will, the damage that we saw there and then tree was cracked in half outside Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Central Ave. here in town as well. So as we are riding from that house, damage over here, we just saw branches and trees down everywhere. I mean, that's the case out here as well in this industrial park. Now I was talking to a gentleman who works here. He said his warehouse has power. I saw several others with power as well. So they seem to be OK as far as that goes. But the damage itself in town extensive and there is a lot of cleanup to take place throughout Mountainside today. So again, be careful with the detours and give those folks that opportunity to get that clean up taken care of. That's the latest from Mountainside in Union County, Tony Caputo, News 12, New Jersey.
