BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty and Carol Kirkwood in awkward on-air exchange

Presenter Naga Munchetty made an odd comment about her BBC Breakfast colleague Carol Kirkwood's blue and white summery dress on Thursday's instalment of the programme.

Naga, who was speaking to Carol ahead of the latest forecast report, began: "Carol, have you ever played that game where you lie down and look at the clouds and you see what the shapes are?"

Carol, without realising Naga was hinting her patterned dress looked like cloud formations, enthusiastically replied: "Yes, you often see faces or animals."

However, Naga admitted: "Yes, well, I did listen to some of what you are saying but I was playing that game with your dress."

Carol, who awkwardly laughed at her co-star's remark, replied: "I dread to think what you saw, Naga..."

Naga explained she'd let Carol know later on, adding: "I am going to look throughout the day and find all the shapes."

Carol continued to nervously laugh as she "thanked" Naga who replied by saying: "My pleasure."

The exchange didn't go unnoticed by some viewers, with one writing on X, formerly known as Twitter: "#bbcbreakfast Shut up Naga... The banter is neither funny nor clever."

Another wrote: "Of [redacted] Naga's banter with Carol? Cringe #bbcbreakfast."

Elsewhere on the show, Carol was left flustered after BBC Breakfats's sports presenter Mike Bushell offered to spend the night with her in a tent.

Mike said he'd be camping overnight to secure a place at Wimbledon next week before noting how Carol would also be in attendance at the sporting event.

He revealed he'd be sleeping in a three-man tent, which prompted Naga to ask who he was going to watch the tennis with.

He replied: "No one, I mean Carol is welcome to come and join me," to which Naga exclaimed: "Oh she'd love that!"

Co-host Charlie Stayt chimed in: "I think the offer's on the table. Carol. Are you there? Is it a yes or a no?"

The camera shot to a crimson-faced Carol who started laughing as she felt "put on the spot".
