Survey identifies most dangerous buildings in city

The Karachi administration held a meeting on Tuesday with the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and decided to evacuate the most dangerous buildings before the start of monsoon rains.

In the review meeting, it was decided to take immediate steps to vacate the dangerous buildings. The meeting was held with Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi in the chair at his office.

Participating officers of the SBCA presented an overview of the most dangerous buildings and provided detailed information. All the deputy commissioners, SBCA officers and others participated in the meeting.

The SBCA officers informed the Commissioner about the details of the survey of dangerous buildings, reporting that the survey has been completed and the most dangerous buildings have been identified which need to be vacated immediately.

They stated that notices have been issued to the owners of these buildings, and a written request has been made to the utility companies to disconnect the utility services.

The meeting concluded with a decision to prioritise the evacuation of buildings that are severely distressed and pose an imminent threat to safety, ahead of the monsoon rains. It was agreed that all DCs would convene meetings with SBCA officers in their respective districts to assess the situation and take prompt action.

The buildings control officers will refer to the deputy commissioner such buildings which pose a threat to the lives of the occupants.

The commissioner instructed the DCs to collaborate with the buildings control authority and ensure that the authority fulfills all legal requirements as soon as possible. This urgent action is necessary to secure the lives of the occupants.
