Supacell has landed on Netflix and subscribers are curious to know where it was filmed.
Michael Lasaki, portrayed by Tosin Cole, was enjoying his fairytale romance with his girlfriend Dionne (Adelayo Adedayo), even going as far as proposing to her.
However, his life takes a dramatic turn when he suddenly gains the ability to see into the future, where he witnesses Dionne's death.
In an attempt to prevent this grim future from becoming reality, he must rally others who have also gained superpowers and protect them all in order to save Dionne's life.
But can Michael persuade this group to unite, and is it possible to alter Dionne's destiny?
Where was Netflix's Supacell filmed?
As per ProductionWeekly, the filming for Supacell kicked off on July 4, 2022, and concluded on December 10 of the same year.
The drama has been in production for a while now, and although it hasn't been officially confirmed, the delay could be due to the 2023 actors and writers' strikes.
When filming did commence, the cast and crew of Supacell assembled in south London, which is also where the Netflix series is set.
What To Watch reports that much of the shooting took place in locations such as Lewisham, Peckham, and Clapham.
Southwark News has highlighted that the trailer features Rye Lane in Peckham, Deptford High Street, and Burgess Park.
However, it remains uncertain whether any filming occurred at Netflix's Shepperton Studios in Surrey, which is now part of the Pinewood Studios Group.
The creative force behind Supacell is none other than Andrew Onwubolu, who goes by the stage name Rapman. He's not just a writer and director but also a rapper and record producer with an impressive portfolio.
His works include the critically acclaimed Blue Story, American Son, and the viral short film series Shiro's Story.
The filming of Rapman's gritty urban tale Blue Story took place predominantly in Deptford and Peckham, although some scenes were shot in Enfield due to restrictions imposed by the Mayor's Office, as reported by Evening Standard.
The office advised against supporting projects that portray knife and gun crime.
However, Rapman faced a different scenario with his latest project, Supacell, stating: "We didn't get the same pushback. Blue Story was a gang movie, and it was advertised as a gang movie."
He further clarified the distinction between the two films: "Even though Supacell has got elements of gang violence, it's not the main thread."
