Chinas 2000cc Tourer Has Way More Power Than The Honda Gold Wing
- Great Wall Motors enters motorcycle market with massive touring bike competing against Honda Gold Wing.
- Engine boasts 152 horsepower, 1,999cc capacity, and near-square eight-cylinder layout for high torque output.
- The S2000 motorcycle weighs in at 992 pounds for the base model.
If you follow two-wheeler happenings regularly, you’d know Chinese giant Great Wall Motors is ready to foray into the motorcycle market. Given its prowess in big engines, the company has whipped up a massive touring bike–the S2000–to compete in the heavyweight segment against the Honda Gold Wing.
Details have been scarce since its first public display in China, though, leaving all of us scratching our heads about what to expect. That wait ends today, as we’ve got our hands on the type-approval documents of the motorcycle. Here are some juicy specs to woo you.

Diving right in, the leaked documents tell us quite a lot about the much-talked-about engine. The capacity lies at 1,999cc and it has a flat-eight layout (the first of its kind in the two-wheeler world), with a 68 mm bore and around 69 mm of stroke. In comparison, the Gold Wing’s 1,833cc, six-cylinder engine has a 73 mm bore and stroke.
The bore-stroke dimensions confirm GWM has focused on a high torque output rather than peak horsepower figures. The 152-pony output backs this well, considering you can easily extract 200 horsepower from an engine half this size (1,000cc, four-cylinder). Nevertheless, the peak horsepower is still a sizable 27 HP up from the Gold Wing.

It's based on the recently revealed GWM Souo S2000 touring bike that rivals the Gold Wing
Limiting the weight to a minimum is often the goal for bikemakers. But it seems GWM has remained quite liberal in this aspect. That’s because the touring motorcycle tips the scales at a whopping 992 pounds for the base model and 1,106 pounds for the full-dress top model with a top box. This is 190 and 170 pounds up from the Gold Wing’s base and Tour variants, respectively. Even with that insane heft, the engine can propel the S2000 to a claimed 130 miles per hour.
Other dimensions of the Chinese motorcycle follow the same trend. The wheelbase and length measure 71.3 inches and 104.7 inches–a sizable 4.4 and 1.8-inch increment over its Japanese rival. Even the width and height measure more than the Gold Wing. The 18/16-inch wheel combination, wrapped with 130/200-section tires, is the same between the rivals, though.

The no-expense-spared suspension and feature list also add to the heft, meanwhile. The S2000 employs Hossack-style forks up top and a monoshock outback, both attached to a cast aluminum chassis. This is topped by 320 mm disc brakes up top, clamped by Brembo monobloc rotors. As for features, you get:
- Smartphone connectivity
- Various display modes
- Electronic aids (detailed list is NA)
- A rear radar setup to enable blind spot detection
- Speakers
- Storage spaces
- Keyless ignition
- Massive fairings
- All-LED lights
With the type-approval documents out, we think the S2000’s production launch isn’t too far. It should go on sale in China soon, followed by the rumored cruiser version spotted recently. That being said, there’s no news on when this will reach international markets. GWM has plenty of experience in selling Chinese products worldwide, so it’d be a piece of cake, don’t you think?
