HOUSTON — The National Hurricane Center continues to track two tropical waves in the Atlantic for potential development over the next five to seven days.
The spot in the Caribbean still has a low (20 percent) chance for development as it moves toward the southern Gulf over the weekend.
The wave out in the open Atlantic looks more likely to develop with a 60 percent chance. This, for the moment, is nothing for us to be overly concerned about. It's thousands of miles away and may not be able to develop al all due to the presence of dust from the Saharan Desert, which currently blankets the Atlantic basin.
In fact, some of that dust is forecast to reach all the way to Texas by the weekend. This would give us hazy skies on a hot weekend before the 4th of July on Thursday.
