Every year on January 15th, India celebrates its valiant Indian Army with a day of immense pride and gratitude. This year, in 2024, the day holds even greater significance as it marks the 76th anniversary of the Indian Army’s first Commander-in-Chief, Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa, taking over the reins from the British in 1949. On January 15, 1949, Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa became the first leader of the Indian Army, taking over from British Commander-in-Chief General Francis Butcher. This year, Indian Army Day will be celebrated in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. On this special day, there will be a parade in the presence of important people, and the Indian Army Chief will take the salute.

It mirrors the Indian Army’s motto, “Service Before Self,” signifying that Army officials always prioritise the safety and security of the nation. The theme aims to inspire the youth to have love and respect for the country.
