Xiaomi launches its first electric car SU7: Price, features and all you need to know

After years of anticipation, Xiaomi unveiled its debut electric car, the SU7, at an event in Beijing, China, led by CEO Lei Jun. Jun proudly dubbed the SU7 as the “dream car” that Xiaomi has meticulously crafted over the past three years. Measuring at 5 meters in length, 2 meters in width, with a wheelbase of 3 meters, the SU7 is positioned as a full-size, high-performance eco-tech sedan, striving to embody both elegance and functionality.

“We want it to be the best looking, easiest to drive, smartest car priced under half a million and it also needed to be a car of good quality. This is the dream car we built for our friends,” Lei Jun said during the launch event. “This is a full-size high-performance eco-tech sedan which is 5 metres long, 2 metres wide and has a wheelbase of 3 metres,” he added.

Talking about the price, the standard version of the car, as shared by Lei Jun, costs 215,900 yuan (Rs 24 lakh approx) in China. In addition to this, the car’s Pro and Max versions will be priced at 245,900 and 299900 yuan respectively.

Coming to what the car has to offer, the Xiaomi SU7 has been launched in 9 colours. During the MWC held in Barcelona last month, Xiaomi had shown three colour options of the car already. Now, 6 more options have been added.Â

The SU7 comes equipped with a 220kW rear-wheel drive motor. Particularly noteworthy is the E-motor HyperEngine V8s, showcasing a maximum motor speed of 27,200 rpm, delivering a robust 425kW output and a peak torque of 635Nm. Xiaomi had earlier said that this set a global record for E-motors, propelling the car from 0-100kmph in a mere 5.3 seconds.

Meanwhile, the fastest version of the car claims to zoom from zero to a hundred kilometres per hour in just 2.78 seconds and can reach a top speed of 265 kilometres per hour. The car also comes with dual motors packing 637 horsepower and 838 newton metres of turbo power. In addition to this, SU7 is built on an 800-volt architecture, similar to Tesla’s Cybertruck.

The design features of Xiaomi’ss SU7 are eye-catching too, with sleek water drop headlights, halo tail lights, and a cool hidden door handle. Inside, you’ll find a futuristic cockpit with multiple screens and high-tech features. The car runs on Xiaomi’s Hyper OS, which connects seamlessly with the company’s other devices like phones and tablets.

Now, let’s talk about range. Depending on the model, you can expect anywhere from 700 to 900 kilometres on a single charge. The base model offers 700 kilometres of range while the the SU7 Pro steps it up with 830 kilometres of range. The SU7 Max boasts nearly 900 kilometres of range.

In terms of autonomous driving capabilities, the SU7 comes with features such as Adaptive BEV Technology, Road-Mapping Foundational Model, and Super-Res Occupancy Network Technology. Two NVIDIA Orin high-performance chips power the vehicle’s hardware.

Diving into the hardware specifics, the SU7 is equipped with LiDAR, eleven high-definition cameras, three millimetre-wave radars, and twelve ultrasonic radars. The interior boasts a 16.1-inch 3K central console, a 7.1-inch rotating dashboard, and a 56-inch HUD (heads-up display). For added convenience, passengers can mount two tablets on the back seats.
